Another excuse to maintain the status quo
VoIP is fast becoming a viable alternative to landlines and the regular telcos can't stand to see their business encroached upon. So grease a few palms and get the feds to pull out the triple chestnuts of drugs, organized crime and terrorism. Unfortunately, those excuses are wearing thin.

Satellite telephony, pay-as-you-go phones that can be purchased at the grocery store checkouts, multiple cell phones, Palms and Blackberries, library PCs with anonymous e-mail accounts, and the old-fashioned pencil and paper are also possible implements of chaos. Shall we try to ban or regulate to death all those, as well? I can *just* see making us register with the FBI to buy pencils.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!
