A plague on both their houses.
If it comes down to choosing between Comcast and Verizon for
my broadband service, my choice is: neither.

I get my service from Covad because they are the only provider I
could find that would give me a static IP address at a reasonable
price.

Furthermore, neither Comcast nor Verizon offers support for
Mac users.

So basically, if the bells win, I will have no options. There will be
no one left in the business that offers what I want to buy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like a pretty
uncompetitive market to me.
