No Patch
Remember there's no patch for human stupidity.

Nearly all of the information gathered to perform these scams is given by the user of those accounts. It's not just limited to the internet the same methods were used over the phone or even person to person though that takes more courage. The only difference between now and them is that the internet allows any wimpy sneaky coward to do the same things.

The amazing thing is people will tell you almost anything if you ask them, you can end up with almost their entire family and life history.

There's an old story why we have nicknames, it was to ward off the devel because it was believed that if he got you real name he would have power over you. Now if people were so causious so many hundreds of years ago why not now. You'd think that with very real consequences these days that we all would be more careful and less trusting. When I was a child,if someone said something they'd be challenged to prove it.

I suppose it's just another facet of the fact that people don't want to take responsibility for their own lives and will surender it up to anyone who happens along. Freedom requires choice and responsibility for that choice and any consequential events. So when we abdicate our responsibility, it should not come as supprise that we lose out freedom.
