The Symbian OS just sucks. Even the article points out what the problem is.

This worm, however, mostly takes advantage of the amount of trust the Symbian operating system invests in other Symbian-based smart phones.

I just think these friendly virus writers noticed the OS's over trusting nature and correctly concluded that there could be a security hole there. My hats off to them.

Also, the smart phone arena isn't exactly huge to start with. If a virus writer really went after the big fish, they would choose PDA's Palm OS or one of the cell phones.
