Absolutely Ridiculous!
I don't care if it's the government, I don't care if it's a hacker, there cannot and will not, under any circumstance, be an excuse for placing spyware onto a person's computer. Whoever that person is, they have the right to their privacy. Whether they are a drug manufacturer, hacker, terrorist, serial killer, it doesn't matter.

Free speech, and free action is taken away already. I don't agree with the Nazi's and what they said, but they had every RIGHT to say it. No matter who a person is, they have the right to privacy. The U.S Government is again contradicting itself.

In 1948, the United States Government signed the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) by the United Nations Organisation. In article 12, in clearly states:

No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

The U.S government is bound by law, but when has that ever stopped them?
