Your reasoning is incorrect
The reason PCs did not become multi-processor multi-core until recently is with-little-doubt owing to illegal use of monopoly power by Microsoft.

As much as you like to blame MS for EVERYTHING, learn a thing or two about design/manufacturing/cost/yields, ect then come back.

Though you may not want to once you find MS had nothing to do with it.
