Even More FUD
"Your arguement fails on the windows platform because WIN32 developers can't write software properly (a legacy of the poor security design of the OS). This results in many Applications (MYOB, Norton anti-virus, etc) not working with restricted USER permissions, but having to be run as "POWER USER"...."

Oh Really? What does the piss-poor quality of Symantec programmers' code have to do with windows anyway? Regardless of what Norton requires or doesn't require, wouldn't it make sense that updating a program that needs full access to every file on the system, would require at least some sort of elevated priveledges? When you update apache on your Linux box, do you do it as a normal user? How about good ole' OSX - Can you install updates when logged in as a regular user account?

Here's a little hint for you when you're in Windows and you need to manually update your Norton AV - hold down the shift key, and right click on an executable, and select "Run As" in Windows. Better yet, schedule LU to run automatically. Symantec has a KB article on their site that describes how to do it.

"Just to further dent your arguement I believe even the USER account can write to its STARTUP directory, so the virii can keep itself running after a restart. "

Umm, yeah. Just like in Unix, a user in Windows can write to his own home directory. Your point?

"Better I stop here..."

Yeah you'd better stop alright. Your ignorance of how Windows, and other OSs works is already painfully obvious.
