Here's a thought
In the early days of viruses and hacking, someone who hacked into large "secure" networks or created viruses that got past anti-virus software would be hired by companies to help protect them AND it made headlines on the national TV news.

Maybe it's still going on today, only now it's LINUX programmers writing viruses to infect Windows so people will switch operating systems.
