There are laws
that govern the merchinability and the suitability of professional products for consumers. If your data gets corrupted due to buggy s/w or hijacked due to insecure s/w, the vendor should be held liable.

Firestone did the unthinkable to allow for very long time the selling of tires that were known to be deffective. MS is doing the same thing and it has gotten away with it only because people sign the EULA.

Ofcourse ultimately it is the organized state that should promote and enforce quality standards to marketable products.

Where are the s/w quality standards that vendors have to adhere to?

People who care about s/w quality should go for a vendor with a track record in this respect. MS has a long record of the EXACT opposite.

Even in the presense of an EULA, comsumers should be protected or guaranteed minimum quality.
