Interesting thought
Well, the obvious response is that, unlike Windows, the iPod is
not a monopoly product. There are lots and lots of viable
alternatives available, some more expensive, and some less
expensive. There is no real "lock-in" as far as mp3 players go.
People seem to be buying the iPod for the quality of its design
and its usefulness. One could also argue that an mp3 player is a
luxury item, and perhaps should be regulated differently from
something that is often necessary for business and
communication, and perhaps should become a public utility.

Personally, I've never argued that MS should be forced to lower
the price of Windows, as I've found better and cheaper
alternatives (OSX, for example).

It would be silly for Apple to lower their price on a product
where they can't even make enough to meet market demands.
