Gee, how about no regulations and let the market work?
I guess my real question is why does VoIP need to be regulated at all? This isn't a case where we are talking about providing basic communication systems for everyone as we did with the existing phone system. This is more like having gravy with the meat and potatoes. It's nice, but not everyone needs gravy.

I guess the point I'm getting at is that basic phone services are available to everyone at a reasonable price. The 911 issue has been covered. Dependability of the dial tone is a given. So why do law makers feel they must do the same with VoIP? Is it simply a case where they see an opportunity to do "something" and feel they must?
