For the One Laptop Per Child program, where I believe there is a goal of fostering civilization by reducing oppression, a balance is needed. On the one hand we do not want children accessing Internet sites to learn how to build bombs. On the other, we do not want those who would use a history of Internet access to "round up the usual suspects" when a bomb is deployed.

If you use something like GoToMyPC, what you have is something where Internet access can be restricted by the "parental" controls loaded on the host computer. The GotoMyPC product uses Java Applets which were designed from the start for security. There are few technology issues because even an insecure WiFi connection can not be monitored or hacked, just jammed. It is like video best I can tell.

But the full solution probably involves restricting Internet access until an age where morality has been established, say teen age. We restrict children from tools that can be used as weapons - like autos and guns. So this seams reasonable.

If you go to a marina with free Wi-Fi you often can only access the port's web site. Restricted outside port access is given. But if you have AOL you can piggy back of the marina site to get full access. Say when the child is 13 he or she gets an additional access provider like AOL.
