But whats the solution
I read a knock on the current state of user computing but no solution offered. While the fact that applications run with the privileges of the user can be a bad thing, how do you change that behavior? In my opinion I think that the start which is done well in Linux but not so much in the Windows realm is to ensure that the users have limited rights, and elevated privileges are required to install applications. The next step I think is to have applications run under their own "user" an application account either one that is created as an application is installed specifically for that application and has only the rights necessary for the application to do what it needs to do an no more. Or a more general application account that can run any application but shields the core OS functions from those applications.
