The ones who exploit the security flaws DO view Microsoft as the victim.

I think they view Microsoft as a patsy. At least one of the worms mentioned in the article was to turn users' computers into spam zombies. I have also heard of worms that turn users' machines into kid pr0n and warez hosts. And of course there is the DDoS zombie we've all heard about.


And these people are viewed as performing a public service?

I've never encountered any description of these folks' activities as a 'public service.' Did the article make them out that way? I kinda skimmed it.
