You missed the point...
Shade, as a Norton's software user myself I encountered this exact problem yesterday with my Nortons firewall after updating the software it fried the program rendering my comp unable to even access the Internet to apply the patch and unable to fix the problem by reinstalling the software. Norton's tech support was NO HELP at all, forcing me to shell out $75.00 and upgrade to Norton Internet Security.

Gotta wonder if this was Symantec's way of forcing users to upgrade to newer products. After this I may rethink using Symantec products again.
