Good point!
You're right,tech people love to throw around terms, when really, its the people who are not technical who are the ones that tend to be affected by these security flaws.

Zero-day refers to a security flaw that has been exploited before there is an update to fix the issue. Most viruses and malicious software is written against flaws that have already been fixed. Hackers take advantage of the fact that not everyone actually keeps there software up to date, so while the flaw is technically fixed, there are still systems that are vulnerable.
