Briefly, you are seeing the same weird behavior with a number of hardware drivers, mostly audio, including Sigmatel and Realtek, and some other software which does not consist of drivers.

And, if you read some of the posts at the above link, the problem is broader than just the linking to Hhctrl.ocx. Evidently, he new patch installs another instance of Hhctrl.ocx, and there is some evidence that the program may have some problems figuring out which one to link to, dynamically or otherwise.

Some folks are solving the problem by simply uninstalling/reinstalling the driver. Others are having luck with the Realtek update.

In any case, MICROSOFT'S PATCH BROKE THINGS, that's why they are so involved in fixing it.
