MS should just bite the bullet and let the patch go through

Otherwise, they will be the ones to take the heat when yet another worm/virus/DOS attack occurs.

As others have said, the software is out there. That is a fact that all of No_Ax's railings cannot deny. Windows in all its versions is sold on the street corner in many countries. Heck, you can even buy copies on eBay or from any of the 200,000 spams filling your Inbox.

Microsoft knows that there are illegal copies out there and tend to turn a blinder eye than you might think to the foreign markets. Think cigarettes in C-rations: the freebies get you hooked! To block the updates is really shooting themselves in the foot.

Deleting hardrives is not a solution as, like others have said, legit copies could take a hit as well when you factor in VL keys, etc.. I don't think Bill's wallet could take too many more hits when the corporate users scream for blood after their servers crash.

Personally, the only place I use XP (unwillingly at that) is on my laptop at work. I will get the update pushed from higher up whether I want it or not. I will then promptly delete it. I don't see any value in it and for Microsoft to make a big deal about it being "free" is a big insult as the problems are MS's fault in the first place.

Make it cheaper and take out the junk. Then maybe the bashing wouldn't be so widespread even among those who HAVE to use it.
