I would say some have been VERY succesful.

MSN: Just reported a profit of $107 million for the last quarter. Yes, that's real profit while AOL is slipping.

Internet Explorer: Went against a monopoly position of Netscape and, no more Netscape.

Xbox: From zero to second place in one year and growing faster than any other competitor.

.net: Has 6 times the growth rate of Java.

Windows Media Technologies: Has signed up more content providers than all others combined.

Enterprise Servers: Fastest growth rate of all competition. (Yes, it is growing faster than Linux.)

SBS-Small Business Server: Sold more copies in one day than Red Hat sold in a year.

T-Box: Oops, can't tell about that one yet. Sorry...

MS Mouse: Beat all the competition hands down and is the most popular mouse in the market.

The point being, yes MS is very successful in many areas. They, like ALL major companies try a lot of things to see how well the public likes it. Something I learned about business a long time ago. You can NOT hit home runs without going to bat a lot of times...
