Stop the BS please.
"A source close to the company said Microsoft entered the Wi-Fi field with hopes of "raising the bar" on security, ease-of-use and performance and now feels it has accomplished those goals. "

Businesses sell products to make money. So stop the BS. Sell products to raise the bar on security, ease-of-use, and performance? Wacko lies! Oh, sure, if Microsoft claims that it wants to raise the bar on security, ease-of-use, and performance then why not give the Wi-Fi products away for free for 5 years. After giving away for free for 5 years, will customers stay loyal? No, it is eat and go.

Accomplished what goals? Yes, goal of proving to the public that Microsoft without desktop Windows and Office monopolies is a lame duck company. Everything else that Microsoft do and did was a money loser.

PocketPCs, X-Boxes, MS Wi-Fi, MS Smartphone, MS Mouse, and MS cable boxes are all money losers. Who is going to pay Microsoft for the PocketPC OS and the SmartPhone OS when they can get it free with Linux? The only time Microsoft can get its PocketPCs and SmartPhone to go on the market is to 'pay' distribution channels to 'carry' these toys. Otherwise, why the risk?

Like said before, everything else done besides Windows desktop and Office is like throwing money away just trying to impress people. Why impress people? To trick people into buying Microsoft stocks. Hey, selling Microsoft stocks is the most profitable business because it is exchanging a piece of paper for cash. MOre profitable than Windows or Office indeed. Besides, no guarantee for dividends. No guarantee for your money back. Only speculating. Maybe you will get bread crumbs dividends and everything else retained for the misnomer 'MS R&D'.
