no no no smear campaign
bugs exist in open source programs. they don't normally receive broadcasted attention outside of their own tech forums and listservs unless they are component to a program or are the program that has widespread use/concerns of exploitation. It's more fun or fulfilling to report on MS bugs, whether they appear on one of their developers blogs, a security report, or on a news channel. For love or hate of them, it generates revenue for the broadcaster and the ad farms grow and grow. Frankly, Zdnet could add a new section that's just a bug list for projects out there and let the numbers run up
