This is no surprise to me that they are finally looking into it. We are talking about MS security aren't we. They never seem to get it right the first time.
This has happened to me two times from the early xbox 1 days. I reported it to MS but they basically said that it could not be from XBL services. The first time, I has used my CC 3 other places so MS blamed the other companies. The 2nd time I only used my CC to pay my yearly subscription fee. Fortunately my CC company took care of everything. Someone got a big screen TV the first time and an IBM laptop the next time.
