Pay attention to this paragraph:
Richard M. Smith, an Internet security and privacy consultant at Boston Software Forensics, said Google should never be archiving the IP address and cookies on servers. "Google should not be in the spy business," he said. "By logging IP addresses and search strings they are running the largest intelligence operation in the world."
Who runs and owns Google? How simple it would be to take all this information and make dossiers on people and use them at a future date, against the users of Google. I happen to like its engine but fear its potential for eveil misuse.
Google needs to stop this nonsense and leave the snooping to the FBI or the NSA. A company who masquerades as a search engine but does the government's spy bidding is a threat to personal freedom.
