The enterprise user accounts for by far the majority of IT
expenditure and was identified in my post. These users do
not run as root in supported *nix environments.

The OS is protected in such environments from the user so
no issues to jump on. Linux is such an OS where the
environment can be locked down to remove the very
problem you identified with windows, something despite
years of problems is still a issue on that platform.

Telling in the sense that someone knows more than one
platform and the varying support costs and
technical issues associated with each?

*nix style OSes are vastly superior for manageability and
lock-down than windows, period. All OSes are not the
same, particularly when it comes to protection from users.
