You're talking about WORK! I used to do exactly the same thing. The difference is that at WORK the stuff belongs to some organization. What you described is taking someones HOME computer and removing parts of their rights to it. Big difference.

Take my brother, he lives in Texas so far out in the country that the phone lines were old when WWII started. He buys a brand new HP box with XP Home on it. Plugs it into the phone line and it automagically dials AOL and connects at 19.2 or maybe 21.6 if he's lucky. How many HOURS of connect time is he gonna waste (yeah waste) picking up patches? Why weren't the majority of patches preloaded? Can he patch before he gets hit with a virus?

Typical MS approach...we've got our butt covered by the EULA, we've got our money, screw him he can take it up with HP.
