Protect the system from the user
The enterprise Joe Average has a PC supported by
the IT Department, running as a restricted user with word
processing, spreadsheet, browser with a few plug-ins (eg
flash), email client, media player, ERP and HR software (eg
SAP, Peoplesoft).

Enterprise Joe will cost his/her organisation thousands of
dollars a year to support.

"Regardless of the platform, an untrained user is an
untrained user and they do dumb things."

We agree that users do unexpected things, this is widely
accepted and known for decades. It is also widely accepted
that improving the user is near impossible. So stop blaming
the user, it is up to the OS to protect the system.

"I mean be honest, who has not heard "Do not open
unknown attachments" and yet millions do it everyday."

Who is at fault here, the OS or the user? How about the OS
doesn't allow the user to execute email attachments or files
download from the internet!

Millions of people continue to get infected on the MS
platform from a behaviour that has been identified years
ago and is obviously not able to be changed through
education. SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PLATFORM!

The different platforms are not the same in containing the
user. Significant OS support saving can be made with a
non-windows platform, however whether this offsets other
costs will depend on the situation.
