But, can you protect users from themselve's?
I applaud Microsoft's efforts in the security area, I hope to applaud them once I see how they work but for right now I am judging effort only. However, with that said, I ask if a secure PC for Joe Average is really possible?

Regardless of the platform, an untrained user is an untrained user and they do dumb things. I mean be honest, who has not heard "Do not open unknown attachments" and yet millions do it everyday. How many Linux users run as root even though they KNOW better? How many "dumb user" stories could we get in this thread before ZDNet shut it down?

What's the old axiom about, "when you build an idiot proof device, someone makes a better idiot"? The PC has certainly driven that point home to me in my own software development efforts. Yes I am sure Microsoft's efforts will be a big help, but so will the efforts on all platforms. But in no way do I expect the problems of security to disappear from the landscape in the foreseeable future, that is, if they ever do...
