The Blaster worm exploited a vulnerability in the RPC service. You can't turn off RPC.

Hasn't anyone noticed that each generation of Microsoft software is more vulnerable than the previous? If you think making RPC an essential service was stupid (and sinister of motive), wait 'til Lockhorn: No browser; the http client will be somehow integrated into the OS kernel (as an API?) for all Windows programs to use. The stupidity of that is mind boggling. If anything, a browser or any other network client should run in a sandbox.
