It would help if our lawmakers would do something meaningful...
There is no reason in the world that I should not be able to lock down my credit records whenever I feel like it. A lock and unlock should be as simple as a phone call or online visit. Give me a password or whatever it takes.

The credit reporting agencies don't like the idea because they can't make money off my records if they are locked but I'm seeing that as "too friggin' bad". It's MY credit history, not theirs.

If people could lock/unlock credit at will, a lot of these frauds would cease to exist. The credit bureaus are parasites. They latch on to my credit history then make money telling others about it. Excuse me if I think consumer privacy and protection should take precedent over corporate profits.

A consumer credit bill of rights needs to be passed, period.
