Have you seen the Quicktime code?
"In fact Apple's code is very clean." Have you actually seen the source code in question? I'm not talking about Darwin or whatever other parts of OS X might be available.

The closest I've come is the Quicktime SDK -- I used QuickTime in an application that I wrote several years ago, so I became intimate with a number of the Quicktime header files. Let's just say that it left me happy that I'm a Windows dev and not a Mac dev.
