And the underlying issue is...
... the fact that analysts and "experts" for the last couple years have been wanting Microsoft to take care of every security issue with the Windows desktop, and that just isn't possible.

Symantec did say something that was perfectly clear: regardless of the security changes that Microsoft makes in Vista, or any operating system for that matter, third-party applications will still be the cause of most security issues. Heck, just look at all the publicized security holes with Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products, along with the holes in Symantec's own products.

But Microsoft cannot control third party applications. They have Vista alerting the user when various potentially risky tasks are about to take place, but I think that's about all that can be done. Saying that PHP, Perl, and other third-party applications can be the cause of security problems and then saying it's Microsoft's responsibility to make sure there aren't holes when those applications are run is ruckus.

That's like saying it's the Linux developer's responsibility to ensure that PHP and Perl run on Linux doesn't create any holes. Again, ruckus.

But what Chris says in his YouTube video blog is the case that even Microsoft has said: the hinderance to wide-spread acceptance of Vista is application and driver support -- the fact that people want their software to work now instead of waiting for updates, if any will be released.
