If you had a virus living in your cdrom firmware then you could write zeros and patterns to your hard drive all day or reformat a thousand times it wouldn't do anything. You'd have to flash the cdrom firmware with the latest copy from the vendor and that is all.

I appreciate the good intentions with the warning, but you might have a few facts confused.
