Sleazy lawyer intimidation tricks
Another example of what's wrong with the legal system/profession in the U.S.A. Anyone with money can hire a lawyer to intimidate a party with fewer resources, and effectively take away their freedom to do things well within their rights.

"HID charged that the planned presentation infringed its intellectual property, U.S. patents 5,041,826 and 5,166,676 in particular."

A presentation cannot infringe on a patent. Patents do not prevent or prohibit the disclosure of the information in them. On the contrary, patents publish and disseminate the knowledge contained for the world to see. The patent just prevents you from making an infringing product (without a license).
