Switch to Linux and watch them all break
There's an old saying...look before you leap. Microsoft provides a slew of information and tools to test for compatibility. If you don't check that's your own fault and not Microsoft's.

As for Linux, go ahead and make the switch and see how many of your legacy applications work on it.

Not to be harsh, but come on...put it all in perspective and do your homework. Oh and if you plan to buy new non-stick pots and pans...don't use your old metal utensils.
