A monopoly must be high-quality, or else is nothing.
Microsoft does not qualify as a monopoly because its products are created in a hurry, by persons who are not exercising their professions properly. They are like a sports team with a coach who does not give them training, but rather tells them to proceed illegally, to win without quality.
IBM was a monopoly, yes, it placed barriers of entry to others, but its software was reliable. IBM was so conscious of responsibility that it created software engineering from the /360 system experience. MS has violated software engineering rules, believing that what matters is to win market share, and that money an marketing can compensate for the bugs introduced in the process. That is a great disrespect for the needs of customers, which lowered the respectability of the U.S. as a whole.
Americans have no idea how deeply Microsoft has hurt the credibility of America.
