Software isn't perfect...
What makes software robust its the fact that the developers are aware of its flaws... As my father have said one day: "What put you in the way of perfection is to know your own imperfections and try to amend them. Just remember not to polish too much your imperfections, because there is some sense of beauty into small imperfections..."
The software is human made, so it is not perfect by definitions, and because it is an "intrusion detector" and it is used in corporative enviroments there is more publicity around it. Does Windows XP Firewall have received the same publicity?... May I guess? Yes! And Worst!
I think this article is a little biased, IMHO if you don't know the way Open Source (OS) works, it gives you the impression that all the OS is flawed.
Even in Linux kernel there are some bugs (just remembering the software entomologic law: "There is always one more bug"), but perhaps those are less dramatic than in another propietary operative systems, security solutions, etc, etc.
So let'em correct their mistakes...
