this is a class of attack, not a single attack's handle!
this is any machine regardless of OS which has a trojan installed which gives a remote user a reliable back door. In this case, hackers propagate the trojan to a machine which "phones home" to another node in the network for commands to execute. Very scary stuff when you consider some of these are so clever that the only way you would pick it up is by noticing the traffic originating from your machine which shouls not be there.

Ken Thompson won a Turing Award for publishing the basic concept back in 1983. In his case, he modified the compiler to insert a back door into login on UNIX (which supposedly was never released) but he goes on to describe how you cover your tracks by making sure rogues do not show up in the process table, or system config files or system source code ... etc.
