Don't hold your breath or anything, but if you had followed the "history" of exploits, then you would notice that they slide from OS to applications as the point of attack, and then back again. Swings, roundabouts, that sort of thing.

Besides that, and it's just my personal thought, I tend to believe that the exploiters are kind of trying to back Microsoft in particular (but really any software vendor) into a position where their patching has backed them into a corner where to fix the problems they're going to have to redesign/rewrite their code. Have you ever played chess and "solved" short term problems only to find you're check mated?
