Last year, in a misleading and apprently flawed statement on ZDNet that Vista would be bullet-proof, I wrote an extensive anaysis of Microsoft's prior claims of how much better and how much safer their "newest" O/S was, albiet, with the typical chagrined glib smiley face on every Microsoft web page of giggly happy business users and giggly happy home users...I said it then and I will repeat it now...no O/S is bullet proof. Whether or not those flaws are inherent in the operating system or whether they come from some other software designed by Microsoft, I said that the first thing that would happen on Vista release was a major challenge to its security viability. I was immediately derided by all you "IT" professionals as ot knowing what I was talking about...whoppie, hurrah...you all said I was full of it and didn't know what I was talking about...so I am here to stick it back in your "IT" professional noses...20 security flaws and the O/S is only about 10 days old. So what if it's in the newest versions of Office or so called "Defender." It is still part of the Vista release as far as I am concered. The next time you arrogant "IT" professionls want to deride common sense and long term experience, you'de bette think again. When are your kind ever going to learn you don't know dick but think you do.
I also did a review of the top 5 security suites which I have tried at home on several computers. I rated Windows Defender LAST, (the worst...as in, useless, defunct and ineptly flawed).
It is still an inept attempt to be everyody's everything. Microsoft did not do itself a favor when it purchased Giant and transformed a half decent security tool into an inept piece of dysfunctional malware. It is a nice glassy appearance with little or no security value...I think LiveOne and Defender are just marketing gimick to get the public to believe in the nefarious misrepresentation that Microsoft takes security issues seriously.
I told all of you "IT" pros then, and I say it now, Defender is a worthless gimick, not a serious security suite. It will continue to be flawed and provide minimal protection because anything that Microsoft does puts a red flag up to every hacker in the world and because security is not Microsoft's top development priority...not like it is with Symantec, McAfee, ZoneLabs or one of the other useful products on the market.
I do not intend (now or in the future) to rely on Microsoft for my security needs. I would rather hire a top gun to get a top notch job done and that means, buying the software that does the job because the company who did it stakes their livelyhood on it.
I know you hate it when I say: "I told you so." - Posted by: jimc52@... Posted on: 02/14/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
