Security patches are not 50MB. At most, they're 1-2MB. Even over dialup, that's ~20 minutes. No excuse. (Now, service packs are a bit of a different story.. but you can get them on CDs from Microsoft)."

In the mind of the average user, there's no difference. They don't want to slog through information about which updates are security or not. They do want to install the "critical updates," and as you know, service packs are listed there.

I always suggest it once they've hired me. But I'm not sure I'd expect the average user to know how to do this or whether or not it was important.
