One more flawed than others ..
Whilst Trend Micro is regarded as one of the more complete tools, they too have had their hickups in the past. My un-supported memory recollects an incident with a faulty update, they distributed about 2? years ago, which rendered thousands of PC's useless. Mostly in Japan, as it was first issued there. About as effective as a virus ...

Symantec on the other hand, hasn't had a decent AV for a long time. It's particularly critical with their updates, which they untill recently only issued once a week.
I have more than once experienced, as a technician/consultant, whilst I was replacing Symantec AV with an AV from Finland, and initiated a manual system scan afterwards (virus, spywares), found numerous reciding in the machine happily undetected by a supposedly fully updated Symantec AV. Typically between 12 and 25 ... They live only from their fame and effective branding!

McAfee has a fairly decent scanner engine, not too heavy on the system and reasonably quick, but they also, like Symantec, has a bizarre approach to updating. FTP is fine (HTTP is better), but could they at least make sure the signature version, they publish on their web site, is actually the one you can download?

I will end my 2P by saying that most people out there, including system administrators, are stuck with the notion that: "If they are big in they market, they must be good!"
No, they all experience flaws once in a while, but some are much better doing something about it.

It is not always that size matters!

Cheers,
Christian
