Umm...
Just curious what do you think these "perimeter" devices are running?

Some OS can be hardened to withstand maximum network saturation on DOS attacks and not go down. Every OS is different and has its strengths and weaknesses. This is more then a matter of an opinion poll, they are just not the same things in different packaging. It is a matter of choosing the right tool for the right job based on the needs of the specific situation.

FYI...Ford vs Chevy is an intentionally flawed example, Ford/Chevy/GM vs Toyota/Honda would be much more appropriate. Two very different approaches, with different goals and different outcomes. You'd have your head in a hole not to decide between the merits of both when buying a new car, same with a computer. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Everyone should just decide what is best for their needs, not which is best for everybody else.
