Microsoft's own antivirus fails to secure Vista

Hey Linux Guys

Okay, here's your chance. I'm just a regular guy, I don't know code or programming whatsoever. Microsoft has basically made the pc accessible to me with ease of use. I know you guys preach security vulnerabilities, viruses, hack, etc.. But the God's honest truth is that I have never had any sort of massive infection that spybot and AVG free edition could not get me through.

I have two media center pc's at home as well as a media center edition notebook. I run the network in a five computer office in my spare time. The computers at work all run xp pro with the exception of mine, I just installed Vista from the recent release after running beta for the last four months. All of my home computers and work computers run Live One Care. With the exception of the firewall being a bit robust for my network applications (I had to manually allow a boatload of processes) I am completely pleased with the product. With the exception of secretaries installing some crap like Zango or mywebsearch, I have had no problems whatsoever.

I honest to goodness have never come across a devastating virus at home or work.

Please explain the hatred for anything microsoft and why would I want to go with Linux? I simply do not understand you guys.

I'm not a pimp for Microsoft, I just don't understand why on earth I would give up my copy of Vista with built in DVD authoring to go to Linux which has, at best, very limited support for dvd authoring. In fact, if you want to author dvd's on Linux, you usually need a combination of several programs requiring several steps (often times command line programs) versus simply drag, drop and click on my Vista pc.

I guess if I had sometime in my life fallen prey to these ubiquitous hacks, trojans and viruses that you guys seem to think are unavoidable on a windows pc, I guess I might feel the desire to go back to command line programs to replace my one click programs I enjoy under Windows.

I am truly not trying to be sarcastic, I really want someone to explain why I would want to take a seeming step backwards? Just to avoid viruses?
