Losses due to poor customer relations:
Symantec has decided that their consumer customer base consists of criminals, and that the Microsoft style of registering the software is necessary. When a successful registration glitches, their support treats customers badly. Symantec is very aware that dad may install the Norton Anti-virus on his daughter's computer without buying a complete store copy. However additional licensing at a fair price is not advertised. (Microsoft will issue additional licenses for a reasonable fee, if you call their support)
The end result, is that many people are going to the free AVG and other antivirus software.
The resulting and disappointing corporate customer issues are therefore understandable. They have brought this on themselves due to pure greed.
