Exactly. The more interesting stuff is yet to come: parasistic programs using complex multistage life cycles (like the biological tapeworms, for example), "living" different stages at different platforms. Evolving viruses (thanks to better genetic algorithms) that "learn" to survive and propagate even in patched hosts. Worms that leverage the first generation of autonomic-computing protocols to get some "insight" about the global infection they are spreading. Etc. Virus writers have plenty of time, imagination and (now) money.

Yes, virus writers now have rich and powerful sponsors.
