User idiocy is a fairly subjective thing.

Are you saying that people should know of flaws before they are recognized and patched? Are you saying that patches are totally reliable and do not have any un-intended side effects that are more costly to a person/company than virus infection? Are you expecting a person using dial-up to download fairly massive patches?

Dumb, ignorant or both? Which are you then?

Virus infection is a "when", not an "if" thing. Also, if you look at the comparative ease with which one can produce a windows virus/worm that actually "works" compared to any other OS you would see that your "market share theory" is not really all that applicable.

Besides, I would have thought a lot of it would be that it is "more fun" as a virus/worm writer to try and do spiffy things with *nix and other systems than to worry about yawh.
