idiot users are to blame
These sort of viruses prey on a different type of vulnerability: Users' idiocy. There are many viruses for windows out there, but if you know what you are doing you should never be infected, even using windows. Moreover, these viruses that spread by e-mail only spread because people are dumb, ignorant or both.

This is not a windows only problem. If, linux had more market share, viruses would target it, same goes for macOS and whatever other operating system you want to think of. And if dumb, ignorant users open unknown executables on a misconfigured, poorly patched computers using ANY operating system, these type of viruses will spread.
