- This is a good move.

First of all, having spent over 20 years in the military, I can tell you that a national ID card will not improve your security more than it was prior to 9/11, and it will not prevent any more terrorist attacks on the U.S.
I can also tell you that the reason we haven't had more terrorist attacks on the U.S. is not because of the Homeland Security Act, or the Patriot Act, or any of the Laws, Rules or Regulations implemented since 9/11. It's because we have troops in Afganistan, Iraq, and the Middle East.
These brave men and women of the military, and the men and women of supporting civilian companies, are the "point men" for our anti-terrorist efforts. They are where the terrorists can easily access them, confront them, or attack them; way more easily than the rest of us 3000+ miles away across an ocean. Now that we have accomplished or negated all our previous reasons for starting the Iraq War, that is the only reason for keep troops in Iraq that satisfies the test of our national interests.
Everyone of the 3000+ American troops killed (and the 20,000+ permanently maimed or crippled) gave their lives in the broadest sense to draw the fire from Americans at home.
Back to the National ID card bit. Every state keeps driver's licenses in a computerized database. There isn't any valid reason that a national database can't be implemented that either links to, or duplicates in a separate db the information contained in those state systems. And does it in an affordable manner.
The Real Reasons for the Real ID is the same as the Reason for the RFID Passport. It's a massive money maker for certain companies that supported the election of certain representatives in our government. Yeah, your taxes haven't gone up to fund all this spending. Our wonderful current government is just dumping it into a massive debt that will come due after they are out of office.
So which one of you terrorist-phobic folks is going to pay the bill? Or do you expect the rest of us to pay for your mental disability? - Posted by: Dr_Zinj Posted on: 01/26/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
