It is
but it doesn't advertise itself to gain marketshare like the commercial entities of Apple and Microsoft, and even Sun. It's great community software, but has yet to crack the consumer market open and show that worth in the same avenues that people would want to see it grow. Yes, it's still more secure, though I love a greater marketshare to test that out as well. And cheaper, yes, many distros have no associated charge - just the users time to download, or it lucky, to find a boxed set at some brave store.
