It's censor, but that's beside the point.
I have not noticed this email decline. Most of the people I correspond with, while not technical people, are bright enough to not open attachments from strangers.

I don't think this is a case of this group of unhappy people ruining it for the the rest of the world, but rather a kind of global maturing process.

The world, after all, is not filled exclusively with nice people who want you to succeed and be happy all the time. There are some jerks and worse, and always have been. The internet has simply opened new avenues for these people to try to effect their negativity, and as time passes we all become aware of this and take measures to protect ourselves - kind of like that candy from strangers thing Mom may have mentioned.

Don't get me wrong. I DO NOT mean to indicate that these weiners you refer to are doing anyone a favor, themselves included. They are the man in the trenchcoat, lurking in the alley to flash some poor unsuspecting soul. They should find an island somewhere with no electricity to live on, and spend the rest of their days foraging, and contracting annoying untreatable illnesses.

There may be more reasons than what you state, and I am sure some have multiple reasons for this sad behaviour, but I expect you listed the lion's share of motivational factors.

Kudos for biting the bullet, doing the double post, and getting your non-obscene yet censored word posted.
